Health Care Assistant

Experience is not essential as full training and supervision will be provided for the right applicant. All applicants must have enhanced DBS checks

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The purpose of care provided by a Families Care Health Care Assistant is to support individuals who choose to remain in the comfort and security of their own homes and to help them live as independent and active lives as possible by supporting them in an enabling focused way. The duties and tasks to be undertaken will be agreed by the client and a service manager once, if appropriate, the clients needs have been assessed. These will be written down in an individual care plan and will be kept in the clients home, it will be your responsibility to follow this plan and other supporting documents, reporting any changes in clients circumstances or needs that you become aware of.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Once you have completed your mandatory training the following are the types of duties you will be qualified to undertake. All of these should be carried out in a manner which encourages clients towards the maximum degree of independence and activity appropriate to their abilities and wishes. It is imperative that the client is able to make their own choices and be given the opportunity to do so. 

  • Assisting getting up in the morning including washing/bathing, personal care and dressing
  • Assisting with undressing and getting into bed in the evenings
  • Assisting with preparation of meals, drinks, snacks and other nutrition when necessary
  • Provide assistance with toileting and changing clothes and/or bedding where necessary
  • To maintain commodes
  • To wash clothes and bed linen (which may include soiled laundry) when necessary
  • Provide assistance with other tasks of personal daily living that the client cannot manage 
  • Assist and encourage the management of medication or administer where necessary and appropriate
  • Monitor health related conditions such as fluid intake and nutrition
  • Support clients with mobility difficulties or other physical disabilities, including incontinence. 
  • If required support with collection of prescription and shopping
  • Maintain all records and paperwork to the highest standard
  • Complete Q and A’s with clients
  • Participate in Service Reviews

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • To report any concerns regarding Safeguarding to management immediately, training is given.
  • To be able to follow procedures in pace to assist you to deliver best practice
  • To report any concerns regarding bullying or discrimination to clients or other team members immediately, 
  • To maintain your own appearance when representing the organisation in clients homes
  • To complete the Care Certificate Training Program
